We are incredibly excited to announce a huge overhaul of our mobile app. This changes everything you think you know about Zebr. Don't look too closely here, my bedroom is messy This has been a huge project for us over the recent months and after late nights, early mornings and mountains of coffee, it is with great pleasure that we are ready to unveil it to the world. Let's talk you through what's new... Design Philosophy When it comes to our design, we strive to create something that our users feel a connection with. To design something that makes them feel all warm and fuzzy inside when they use it and every pixel of what you see in the new update, has been placed with that philosophy in mind. We wanted to create a design that feels novel and unique to Zebr We wanted to create something fun, yet powerful, something light and swift feeling that guides you when it needs to, and gets out of your way when you are on a flow. We wanted to create a design that feels novel and unique to Zebr, whist still feeling familiar to what you might expect from other apps you use on a daily basis. The first thing you will notice when opening up the app, is the vibrancy of the colours and animations. Too often we see apps play it safe in these departments, but we really wanted to have some fun here and reflect the excitement of what you're in the app to do. Get your song noticed, or earn some money! It's all so much fun over here Performance Our new fancy designs and animations could easily have come at the cost of performance whilst using the app, but we have spent an unfathomable amount of time improving all aspects of the performance and stability of the app. It zips around like never before, and we think you will notice this whilst using it. We had to rewrite huge sections of our base code to achieve these performance improvements and we don't regret it, not one bit. Power users When we first made Zebr 1.0, we were very much in a battle between trying to get our idea to market quickly vs trying to achieve the high level of quality that we aspire to. Ultimately, the first version of the app reflects this conflict and sits in the perfect middle ground between the two, which was exactly what we needed for an app launch. Now that we are out there and doing big things (Burna Boy's #1 song on TikTok, we're looking at you), we have afforded ourselves the time to reach that high bar that we have always strived for with the app, and a big part of that is including power user features into the app. These are the things that some of you might never notice after months of using the app, but when you are looking for that power feature one day, it's there and waiting to go. We will leave you to find out where these power features are for yourselves. Personality I always think that good art reflects the artist personality in every brush stroke, and I think the same is true with app design (and yes, app design is still art, thank you mum), and the last piece of the app that i'd like to talk about is about just this. This is who we are at Zebr Some parts of the app are a bit different from what you might expect from an app. Animations, casual wordings and some light hearted jokes here and there, and some of you might not like that, but we will unapologetically be leaving them in as this is who we are at Zebr, and we want our app to reflect us and what we're all about over here. Just a bunch of people having fun and trying to make a big splash, and we hope you enjoy the ride with us. We really hope you love the new app update as much as we do, and we hope it serves you well in the coming months(/ years?), and if you don't like it... well then you're wrong, it's great.
